And I’m not the only one

It seems Effen lager (see previous post) has won the Peoples Choice award for best lager at the Microbrewery showcase last month. My tastes must be reasonably close to those of  “the people”. Regardless of the fact that there were very few lagers on show that night, it’s a good beer and the award is well deserved! Sometimes you just need a good, clean, easy to drink lager and this fits the bill nicely.

My favourite Friday night beer this week is 3 Ravens American Pale Ale, I don’t know why it took me so long to discover it.

Brewer: 3 Ravens, Thornbury

Variety: 55 – American Pale Ale (5.5%ABV)

The marketers say: Five assertive hops meet a blend of barley, corn, wheat oats and rye. Floral aromatics lead to a structured maltiness and clean finish. Traditional bottle conditioning naturally carbonates this beer and helps to its complexity.

Appearance: Nice amber pour with a dense creamy head with a bit of staying power.

Aroma: Complex fruity hoppy aroma. More fruits that you can poke a stick at. Lots of citrus.

Taste: Fairly bitter, plenty of fruit and some calming malt. Just enough carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: A winner on a hot Melbourne night. Maybe the alcohol comes through a little too strongly. I might have a taste off with the Boatrocker Alpha Queen one night. Highly rated!

Cheers
