Three Troupers

Lately there have been a few indications that there may be warmer weather ahead – time to get back into some refreshing ales and lagers. Just as I was thinking that, some Pale Ale and Pilsner from Three Troupers Brewery in Beaufort appeared as if by magic.

Three troupers-palealeBrewer: Three Troupers Brewery, via Beaufort

Variety: Pale Ale  (4.5%ABV)

The marketers say: Citric and fruity hop and ester notes, with a well rounded body and plenty of balance.

Appearance: Light golden with a bright white head that didn’t last long.

Aroma: Gentle citrus with a little sweetness.

Taste: Clean, crisp and a little bland. Some caramel perhaps but really not a lot distinctive here.

Overall: A bit weak in flavour for my taste but fine for a thirst quencher or if you are after something not too challenging to start with. Certainly better than your average mega brew. Nice label and marketing too.

Threetroupers-pilsnerBrewer: Three Troupers Brewery, via Beaufort

Variety: Pilsner  (4.5%ABV)

The marketers say: a light clear colour, a distinctive herbaceous aroma, and a fruity, hoppy finish.

Appearance: Very pale gold with a bright white head that didn’t last long.

Aroma: Something a little stale about the aroma.

Taste: Fairly bland apart from a harsh after taste that I didn’t enjoy much.  A bit like someone had added a dash of mineral water to the pale ale.

Overall: I’d go for the Pale Ale rather than the Pilsner. The mineral overtones put me off a bit.

Cheers

I tried this one at the Halls Gap food and wine festival last year, a nice drop indeed.

Tried these for the first time the other night at Fed Square. Like you I though the pale was the pick of the two. I might even have enjoyed it a bit more than you did but hard to tell in 60ml.
I’ll have to invest in a 6 pack or even better, go for a drive.
Sounds like a good excuse for a weekend away.
