Holgate Hopinator

The Hopinator. Great name but how does it rate?

HopinatorBrewer: Holgate Brewhouse, Woodend.

Variety: Hopinator Double IPA (7% ABV)

The marketers say: takes the concept of an India Pale Ale to the extreme with a higher gravity to balance an outrageous continuous hopping schedule. Guaranteed to challenge your taste buds and take your breath away, the Hopinator has rich and malty caramel tastes up front, a dense hop aroma, and a bitter hop kick at the back of the palate.

Appearance: Pours dark red/brown with a fairly small cream head that faded quickly.

Aroma: Strong malt aroma

Taste: Again, quite malty with some caramel and chocolate.

Overall: Not as full-on as the marketing would have you believe but a very enjoyable ale that has plenty to keep the drinker interested. Beware of the alcohol content!
